Girls' Lacrosse Goalie Coaches' Clinic

Led by President/Owner of Lacrosse Northwest, Sarah Tomlinson is taking your suggestions for helping local Oregon lacrosse coaches run successful practices with their goalies "in mind".

Here are some questions to keep in mind while considering the girls lacrosse goalie coaches clinic:
Do you feel like it is challenging to run your field practice while keeping your goalie actively involved?  If you had extra time as a coach during practice, do you know what drills to run with your goalies on an individual basis as well as with the team?  Is it possible for your goalies to train effectively and independently without out your constant attention?

We have created a girls' lacrosse goalie coaches' clinic based on results from a survey Lacrosse Northwest sent to 120 Oregon Girls' youth and high school coaches and administrators.  The following are the details of the clinic and what we heard you saying:

For Who:  Oregon Girls' Youth - High School Lacrosse Coaches
Clinic Level:  Beginning - Intermediate (Time will be left for more advanced questions)
What?  Combination of "classroom discussion", demos, and hands on activities to teach coaches how to effectively work with their goalies during practices and games.
Maximum Enrollment:  20 Coaches
When:  Sunday, March 14
Time:  10:00am - 12:00pm
Where:  Lakeridge High School Turf Field/Track
Cost:  $30 (Check with your program regarding reimbursement for the clinic)

Sarah has been playing in goal for 11 years, coaching Lakeridge Girls' High School Goalies for three seasons, as well as in her first season as a goalie coach with Pacific University's DIII women's lacrosse team.  She has built her knowledge from her own experiences playing as well as continuing her professional development through educational seminars and clinics.  We hope you find her knowledge to be useful for your upcoming season!

Instructional Girls Coaching Clinic - Starting January 31

About this program: This program is for those who are interested in coaching girls' lacrosse. With such a high demand for coaches, what a great way to get involved and learn from the best in the area.

Participants will learn from highly qualified local youth/high school coaches, referees, and players from the Portland Women's Lacrosse Club team. This is hands on education where participants will learn to coach while playing the game and running a Girls' practice.  Learned items will include coaching basics, rules and skills of the game, proper conditioning, and officiating. We will meet for 1.5 hours weekly for 6 weeks.  The next two weeks will be open for make up classes for those who cannot attend our regular 6 week sessions.

Each participant must provide their own equipment, however, please contact us to see if we have any used equipment available.

Registration for the six week session is $100.00. In the past, programs/schools/clubs have paid the registration for our students.  Check with your program to see about continuing education reimbursement!

From one of our Summer 2008 Participants!

"The coaching clinic was just the ticket for this dad with new lax daughters. Juliet and Sam did a great job.  I learned a ton about rules, tactics, and the spirit of the game.  It was fun to gain a real appreciation for how hard the players work by doing the hands on activities such as passing, catching, cradling, running, shooting, defending, and positional drills as well.  I'm hopeful I'll be able to give more back to lacrosse in the future, either by being a better "club parent" or helping in a more direct way.  Thanks!"
