There is no mandate, or plan to mandate, the use of women’s headgear by US Lacrosse or the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS).

That’s one of the primary points of clarification in a new informational video produced by US Lacrosse, featuring Caitlin Kelley, senior manager of the women’s game. The video addresses some of the questions directed to US Lacrosse in recent months about women’s headgear.

“To be clear, headgear use remains optional,” Kelley says. 

The only stipulation added to the US Lacrosse, NFHS, and NCAA rules that govern play at all levels is that if headgear is worn, it must meet the ASTM performance standard, F3137. 

Markings on both the headgear packaging and product confirm that the headgear conforms to the ASTM standard.
